Words and Sound

Words and Sound is a captivating concert featuring composer and pianist Anjelika Akbar alongside voice artist Reyhan Çınar. This event presents a unique stage encounter where the essence of words and music intertwines in an improvised format. Reyhan Çınar reads selected texts from Turkish literature, while Anjelika Akbar translates the emotions and meanings of those words into music, all without prior knowledge of the texts to be performed.

The program centers around improvisation, creating a dynamic interaction between the spoken word and the piano. Each poem or passage opens a new door, as Akbar’s musical interpretation shifts in response to the rhythm, pauses, and nuances of the spoken text. The music generated is exclusive to that moment, that room, and that interaction, making each performance a unique experience. Even if the same text were to be read on another day, the music born from it would never be replicated.

In addition to the improvisational segments, the concert will also feature solo performances by Anjelika Akbar and texts read by Reyhan Çınar that are independent of the music.
