Hera Büyüktaşcıyan: Hayalet Kuartet

Hera Büyüktaşcıyan’s Hayalet Kuartet brings together new works created for Arter with earlier pieces, including works from the Arter Collection. Curated by Nilüfer Şaşmazer, the exhibition explores recurring themes in the artist’s practice, including invisibility, memory, architecture, nature, the city and cycles of disappearance and renewal.

Drawing on Büyüktaşcıyan’s personal history rooted in Istanbul’s Kurtuluş and Tarlabaşı neighborhoods, the exhibition connects fragments of individual memory with the city’s layered history and transformations. Across four sections, ideas of presence and absence, life and death, body and spirit, and erasure and reconstruction create a series of shifting connections between different times and places.

Rather than presenting a straightforward narrative, Hayalet Kuartet creates dreamlike landscapes from memories, echoes and gaps. The exhibition invites visitors to consider how places retain traces of what has disappeared and how personal and collective histories can overlap.

Presented at Arter in Istanbul, the exhibition offers an atmospheric introduction to Büyüktaşcıyan’s multidisciplinary contemporary art practice.
