Gökyüzü Şekerdendi (The Sky Was Made of Candy) brings together works by 24 artists from the Arter Collection in a group exhibition exploring the ideas of home, belonging and homeland. Curated by Selen Ansen, the exhibition brings together painting, photography, sculpture, video and installation, creating a rich and atmospheric dialogue between different artistic practices.
Rather than treating home as a fixed physical place, the exhibition explores it as something shaped by memory, imagination, movement and personal experience. The works lead visitors through memories of places left behind, landscapes of belonging, unfamiliar territories and the desire to find or return to a home.
The exhibition also considers how ideas of belonging are shaped by migration, borders and contemporary geopolitical realities. Across the gallery space, shifting perspectives between inside and outside, earth and sky, past and future, rootedness and displacement create an immersive environment that encourages visitors to reconsider what home can mean.
Presented at Arter in Istanbul, Gökyüzü Şekerdendi offers an engaging introduction to contemporary art while connecting personal experiences of home and belonging with broader cultural and social questions.
