The Türkiye İş Bankası 48th Istanbul Marathon brings thousands of runners from around the world to Istanbul on 1 November 2026 for one of the city’s most distinctive annual sporting events. Known as the world’s only intercontinental marathon, the 42K Istanbul Marathon 2026 begins on the Asian side, crosses the Bosphorus and continues through the historic heart of European Istanbul.
The full Istanbul Marathon 2026 is complemented by shorter race categories and public running events, making the marathon weekend accessible to a wider range of participants. For international visitors, the event offers more than a traditional road race: it is an opportunity to experience Istanbul’s unique two-continent identity from a completely different perspective.
The 42K route passes some of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks. After crossing the 15 July Martyrs Bridge from Üsküdar, runners head towards Beşiktaş and Dolmabahçe Palace before continuing through Fındıklı, Tophane and Karaköy. The route of the Istanbul Marathon 2026 then crosses the Galata Bridge and follows the historic waterfront past Sirkeci, the Egyptian Bazaar and Topkapı Palace. Further along, runners pass Kumkapı, Yenikapı and the historic coastline before heading back towards the city centre.
The final stretch brings the route through Gülhane Park and into Sultanahmet, where the marathon finishes at the historic Hippodrome between the Blue Mosque and the Obelisk. Along the way, runners experience the Bosphorus, historic waterfront districts, Ottoman landmarks and some of Istanbul’s most recognisable sights — making the race feel almost like a running tour through the city.
The Istanbul Marathon 2026 has been a major fixture in the city’s sporting calendar for more than four decades and attracts participants from Türkiye and around the world. Whether taking part in the race or simply experiencing the atmosphere around the course, it offers a memorable way to see Istanbul in motion while crossing one of its most iconic landmarks: the Bosphorus.
